scrotum (singular), scrota (plural):
1. The pouch found in most male mammals that contains the testicles and part of the spermatic cord. It allows sperm to develop at a temperature lower than that of the body.
2. The pouch that contains the testes and their accessory organs. It is composed of skin, the dartos [muscular, contractile tissue under the skin], the spermatic [semen or sperm], cremasteric [muscles suspending and enveloping the testicles and spermatic cord], infundibuliform fasciae [membranous layer encircling the spermatic cord with a sheath of tissue], and the tunica vaginalis [serous (serum) membrane surrounding the front and sides of the testicle].
