-arian (Latin: a suffix; a person who, a thing that; a person who is a part of something, pertaining to one's state or condition).

A suffix that forms nouns. The most common use of this suffix denotes religious or moral tenets.

abecedarian:
1. Of or pertaining to the alphabet; marked with the alphabet; arranged in alphabetical order, as abecedarian psalms, like the 119th.
2. Occupied with learning the alphabet, or pertaining to one so occupied.
3. One engaged in teaching the alphabet and the merest rudiments of instruction.
acararian:
Pertaining to, caused by, or of the nature of an acarus or mite.
agrarian:
1. In Roman history, relating to the land: epithet of a law (Lex agraria) for the division of conquered lands.
2. Of, relating to, or connected with, cultivated land, or its cultivation.
alphbetarian:
One learning his alphabet, or the mere rudiments of any subject; a beginner; an abecedarian; also, one who studies alphabets.
altitudinarian:
1. Pertaining to, or reaching to, the heights (of fancy, doctrine, etc.).
2. One who is given to lofty thoughts or plans.
antidisestablishmentarian:
Properly, opposition to the disestablishment of the Church of England. Popularly cited as an example of a long word.
antiquarian:
Of or connected with the study of antiquities.
antiquitarin:
One attached to the practices or opinions of antiquity.
apiarian:
Pertaining to bee-hives or bee-keeping.
aquarian:
1. Of or pertaining to the sign of Aquarius; characteristic of a person born under this sign.
2. One of a sect of Christians in the primitive church, who used water instead of wine in the Lord's Supper.
3. One who keeps an aquarium.
attitudinarian:
One who studies and practices attitudes.
authoritarian:
1. Favoring strict rules and established authority.
2. Belonging to or believing in a political system in which obedience to the ruling person or group is strongly enforced.
3. Someone who favors or maintains strict rules and obedience to authority.
4. One who supports the principle of authority as opposed to that of individual freedom.
barbarian:
1. Etymologically, a foreigner, one whose language and customs differ from the speaker's.
2. Historically: one who is not a Greek; then one living outside the pale of the Roman empire and its civilization, applied especially to the northern nations that overthrew them; followed by one who existed outside the pale of Christian civilization.
3. A rude, wild, uncivilized person.
4. An uncultured person, or one who has no sympathy with literary culture.
5. Applied by nations, generally depreciatively, to foreigners; thus at various times and with various speakers or writers: non-Hellenic, non-Roman (most usual), non-Christian.
celibatarian:
1. Characterized by, or characteristic of, celibacy; inclined to, or favouring celibacy.
2. One who lives in or advocates celibacy.
centenarian, centenarianism:
1. Of the age of a hundred years; a person a hundred years old.
2. Of or belonging to a centenary celebration.
columbarian:
A dove-keeper, pigeon-fancier.
communitarian:
A member of a community formed to put into practice communistic or socialistic theories.
dictionarian:
A maker of a dictionary; a lexicograher.
disciplinarian, disciplinarianism:
1. One who enforces discipline (in an army, school, family, etc.).
2. An upholder or advocate of strict discipline.
duagenarian, duogenarian, duagenary, duogenary:
A reference to a person who is twenty to twenty-nine years old; someone who is in his/her twenties.
equalitarian:
1. One who asserts the equality of mankind.
2. Pertaining to, or connected with, the doctrine of the equality of mankind.
establishmentarian, establishmentarianism:
1. Advocating the principle of an established church; characteristic of those who advocate this principle.
2. One who adheres to or favors a church for the reason that it is established.
3. One who supports the principle of an "Establishment" or an "Established Church". Also, an adherent of the "Established Church" (usually a reference to the Church of England).
formicarian:
Relating to or resembling ants.
grammarian, grammarianism:
One versed in the knowledge of grammar, or of language generally; a philologist; often signifying also a writer upon, or teacher of grammar.
herbarian:
One skilled in the knowledge of herbs, a herbalist.
humanitarian, humanitarinism:
1. In theology, someone who affirms the humanity (but denies the divinity) of Christ.
2. One who advocates or practices humanity or humane action; one who devotes himself to the welfare of mankind at large; a philanthropist.
3. Committed to improving the lives of other people.
4. Involving and affecting human beings, especially in a harmful way; such as, a humanitarian disaster.
inegalitarian, inegalitarianism:
One who denies or opposes equality between persons.
inhumanitarian, inhumanitarianism:
One who does not accept the views and practices of humanitarianism.
insectarian, insectarianism:
One who feeds on insects.
libertarian, libertarianism:
1. One who holds the doctrine of the freedom of the will, as opposed to that of necessity.
2. One who approves of or advocates liberty.
librarian:
The keeper or custodian of a library.
lunarian:
1. One who observes or describes the moon.
2. One who used the lunar method in finding longitude.
malarian:
Pertaining to or causing malaria; malarial.
mercenarian:
1. Of or belonging to mercenary soldiers.
2. Someone who works or serves only for personal profit or who is motivated solely by a desire for money.
millenarian:
1. In the etymological sense, relating or pertaining to a thousand.
2. One who holds or believes that Christ will reign on earth in person for a thousand years; a believer in the millennium.
nonagenarian, nonagenarianism:
A person who is ninety years old, or between ninety and a hundred.
octogenarian, octogenarianism:
A person who is eighty years old, or eighty to eighty-nine years of age.
ovarian:
Pertaining to or of the nature of an ovary or ovaries.
parliamentarian:
One versed and skilful in parliamentary usages and tactics; a skilled and experienced parliamentary debater.
pedarian:
Applied to Roman senators of an inferior grade, who had no vote of their own, but could merely signify their assent to that of another; pedarii senatores. In antiquity, those senators who signified their votes by their feet, not their tongues; that is, such as who walked over to the side of those whose opinion they approved of, in divisions of the house.
piscitarian:
A fish monger or one who sell fish.
planetarian:
Belonging to or connected with a planet or planets; planetary.
platitudinarian, platitudinarianism:
Someone who is characterized by platitudes; addicted to the use of platitudes.
predestinarian, predestinarianism:
One who believes or maintains the theological doctrine of predestination, especially in an extreme form; a fatalist.
proletarian:
1. Of or pertaining to the lowest class of the people.
2. Of or pertaining to the proletariat in the modern sense; such as, the proletarian revolution or the stage of political development predicted by Karl Marx when he said the proletarians would overthrow capitalism.
3. A member of the poorest class of a community; especially, one who is without capital or regular employment; one of the proletariat.
quadragenarian, quadragenarious:
A person who is forty years old or forty to forty-nine years old.
quinquagenarian:
A person who is fifty years old or fifty to fifty-nine years of age.
quinquennarian:
Someone who is five years old.
ranarian:
Froggy.
rosarian:
One who is interested in the cultivation of roses; especially, an amateur rose-grower.
Rotarian:
Of, pertaining to, or characteristic of the Rotary organization, a Rotary Club, or Rotarians.
Sagittarian:
Of, pertaining to, or characterized by Sagittarius; born under the sign of Sagittarius.
sectarian:
A bigoted adherent of a sect; one whose views or sympathies are sectarian.
seminarian:
A student at a religious seminary or Jesuit school; a seminarist.
septuagenarian, septuagenarianism:
Seventy years old or seventy to seventy-nine years of age.
sexagenarian, sexagenarianism:
Sixty years old or sixty to sixty-nine years of age.
sexennarian:
A six-year-old child.
totalitarian:
1. Of or pertaining to a system of government that tolerates only one political party, to which all other institutions are subordinated, and which usually demands the complete subservience of the individual to the State.
2. A leader or member of a totalitarian party; an advocate or supporter of totalitarianism.
tricentenarian:
A person who is three-hundred years old.
trigenarian:
A person who is in her/his thirties; a person who is from thirty to thirty-nine years old.
utilitarian:
Of philosophy, principles, etc.; consisting in or based upon utility; specifically with regards to the greatest good or happiness of the greatest number as the chief consideration or rule of morality.
vegeterian:
1. One who lives wholly or principally upon vegetable foods; a person who on principle abstains from any form of animal food, or at least such as is obtained by the direct destruction of life.
2. A reference to animals that live on vegetables.
3. Consisting of vegetables or plants.
verbarian:
An inventor or coiner of words.
veterinarian:
One who is skilled in, or professionally occupied with, the medical and surgical treatment of cattle and domestic animals; a veterinary surgeon.
vocabularian:
One who gives much or undue attention to words.
