brady- (Greek: slow, slowness; delayed, tardy).


Used in the sense of "abnormally slow".

bradyacusia:
Dullness of hearing.
bradyarrhythmia:
Any disturbance in the heart rhythm in which the heart rate is abnormally slowed, usually to less than 60 beats per minute in an adult.
bradyauxesis:
A form of heterauxesis, or the disproportionate growth of a part in relation to another part, in which the part grows more slowly than the whole.
bradycardia, bradyrhythmia:
Slowness of the heartbeat, as evidenced by slowing of the pulse rate to less than 60 beats per minute in an adult.
bradycardiac, bradycardic:
A reference to bradycardia or an agent that acts to slow the pulse rate.
bradycinesia, bradykinesia, bradykinetic, bradypragia:
1. Abnormal slowness of muscular movements, often associated with a diminution of the range of movement, typically seen in parkinsonism.
2. Slow or retarded muscular movement that may be organically or psychically determined. It is common in depressive states and is often observed in schizophrenia.
bradycrotic:
Pertaining to characterized by, or inducing slowness of pulse.
bradydysrhythmia:
An abnormal heart rhythm with rate less than 60 beats per minute in an adult; the term bradyarrhythmia is usually used instead.
bradyecoia:
A mild deafness (slow of hearing).
bradyesthesia:
Slowness or dullness of perception.
bradygenesis:
The lengthening of certain stages in embryonic development.
bradyglossia:
Slowness of speech due to impaired mobility of the tongue, which may be due to local tongue or mouth pathology or to more distant neural lesions.
bradykinetic:
1. Characterized by or performed by slow movement.
2. Denoting a method of showing the details of motor action by motion pictures taken very rapidly and shown very slowly.
bradylalia:
Abnormally slow utterance of words due to a brain lesion or mental disorder; also bradyarthria, bradyphasia, and bradyphrasia. It may be occasioned by organic or psychological pathology or both and is common in depressed conditions.
bradylexia, bradylogia:
Abnormal slowness in reading, due neither to defect of intelligence nor of vision nor to ignorance of the alphabet. It may be one manifestation of psychomotor retardation in depressive states.
bradymenorrhea:
A slow or prolonged menstrual flow.
bradypeptic, bradypepsia:
Characterized by slow digestion; an abnormal slowness of digestion.
bradyphagia:
1. Abnormal slowness when eating.
2. Slowness in swallowing due to an organic impediment.
bradyphasia:
Slowness of speech due to slow conceptualization of the thoughts that the patient wishes to express.
bradyphemia:
A slowing-down of the rhythm of spoken words.
bradyphrasia, bradyphrasis:
Slowness in thinking; a sluggish mentality.
bradyphrenia:
Slowness of thought or fatigability of initiative, resulting from depression or central nervous system disease. It is used by some psychiatrists as the equivalent of mental retardation, by others as the equivalent of psychomotor retardation.
bradypnea:
Abnormal slowness of breathing.
Bradypodiadae, bradypus:
A family of mammals of the order Edentata comprising the true sloths; tree sloths.
bradypsychia:
Slowness of mental reactions.
bradysanescent:
Slow in healing; said of cuts, lacerations, etc.
bradyseism, bradyseismic:
A slow rise and fall of the earth's crust.
bradyspermatism:
Abnormally slow ejaculation of semen.
bradysphygmia:
Abnormal slowness of the pulse, usually linked to bradcardia.
bradystalsis:
Delayed or slow intestinal movements; also, bradydiastalsis.
bradytachycardia:
Alternating attacks of bradycardia and tachycardia, as may occur in sick sinus syndrome.
bradyteleocinesis, bradyteleokinesia, bradyteleokinesis:
1. A dyskinesia in which a movement is slowed or stopped prior to reaching its goal.
2. A disorder of movement, sometimes seen in cerebellar dysfunction, but not pathognomonic, in which a particular movement is arrested suddenly and unexpectedly and then, after a pause, the movement is completed in a slow jerky manner.
bradytelic, bradytely:
1. A significantly slow rate of evolutionary change for a given species within a group of related species.
2. Evolving at a slower than normal rate over long geologic periods, with slow speciation.
bradytherapy:
In medicine, a form of radiotherapy in which the agent used is close to, on the surface of, or implanted in the body.
bradytocia:
1. Lingering or slow parturition (childbirth).
2. Slow delivery of a fetus.
3. Prolonged labor and slow delivery of a fetus.
bradytrophia:
1. A condition characterized by slow-acting nutritive processes.
2. Retarded growth and slow metabolic rate, as shown by hypothyroid children and those suffering from protein-calorie malnutrition.
bradytrophic:
1. Having slow-acting nutritive processes.
2. Causing decreased activity in living organisms.
bradyuria:
Abnormally slow passage of urine.
