calque [KALK] (Latin: calx, heel, to tread; through Italian and French: an imitation, tracing).

A borrowing by which a specialized meaning of a word or phrase in one language is transferred to another language by a literal translation:
"masterpiece" is a calque from German "meisterstuck". A calque is a transliteration or reduplication of a word or phrase from one language to another one.
