trit- (Latin: tritus, past participle of terere, to rub; thresh, grind; to wear away).


antiattrition:
That which opposes or resists attrition. specifically, any compound applied to machinery to resist the effects of friction; as black lead mixed with grease, peroxide of iron, etc.
attrition:
1. The action or process of rubbing one thing against another; mutual friction.
2. The action or process of rubbing away, wearing or grinding down, by friction.
3. In military applications, the gradual wearing away of morale and the powers of resistance by persistent attacks.
4. In the workplace, the gradual reduction of the size of a workforce by not replacing personnel lost through retirement or resignation.
biodetritus:
Detritus derived from the disintegration and decomposition of once-living organisms; further designated as phytodetritus or zoodetritus, depending on whether the original organism was vegetal or animal.
contrite:
1. Literally, bruised, crushed; worn or broken by rubbing.
2. Crushed or broken in spirit by a sense of sin, and so brought to complete penitence.
contrition:

Of or pertaining to detritus; consisting of particles worn away from some solid body.

1. That which has been worn or rubbed away.
2. In geology, disintegrated; formed as detritus.

detritivore, detritivorous, detritivory:
Feeding on fragmented particulate or eating very small pieces, or particles, of organic matter.

Biodetritus produced by the disintegration and decomposition of animal organisms.

1. Worn out by constant use or repetition; devoid of freshness or novelty; hackneyed, commonplace, stale.
2. Well worn; worn out by rubbing; frayed; such as, a road or path that is well-trodden, beaten, or frequented.
